Swim alongside the gentle giants of the ocean during the famous Cancun whale shark season, a once-in-a-lifetime activity perfect for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and snorkeling enthusiasts visiting Cancun and Riviera Maya.

Your experience begins with comfortable transportation from Cancun or Riviera Maya, followed by check-in at the marina where you’ll meet your professional bilingual guides. Before departure, the crew will provide a complete safety briefing and snorkeling instructions to ensure you feel confident and prepared for the adventure ahead.

Cruise across the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean Sea aboard a fast and comfortable boat as you head toward the protected whale shark feeding area near Isla Mujeres and Holbox. During the navigation, keep an eye out for dolphins, sea turtles, manta rays, and other tropical marine life commonly spotted in the area.

Once the whale sharks are located, get ready for the highlight of the experience: entering the water for a thrilling whale shark swim and snorkeling experience in Cancun. Accompanied by certified guides, you’ll have the opportunity to snorkel near these majestic creatures in their natural habitat while learning fascinating facts about their behavior, migration, and conservation.

After the whale shark encounter, relax and enjoy the beauty of the Mexican Caribbean with a stop at the world-famous Playa Norte in Isla Mujeres, known for its shallow turquoise waters and white sandy beaches. Cool off in the crystal-clear sea, enjoy delicious onboard ceviche and refreshments, and take in the breathtaking tropical scenery before returning to Cancun.

This tour is considered one of the top-rated eco tours in Cancun and one of the best outdoor experiences for travelers looking to combine adventure, snorkeling, marine wildlife, and the natural beauty of Isla Mujeres in a single day.

  • Whale shark sightings are highly likely during the season, but as these are wild animals in their natural habitat, sightings cannot be 100% guaranteed.
  • Whale shark season in Cancun generally runs from May through September, making this a limited seasonal experience
  • For safety and environmental protection, touching the whale sharks or interfering with their natural behavior is strictly prohibited.
  • Participants will complete up to two guided whale shark swimming immersions depending on weather and ocean conditions.
  • This tour takes place in open ocean waters, so moderate waves and boat movement should be expected. It is highly recommended for guests prone to motion sickness to take precautions before the tour.
  • The whale shark encounter is weather-dependent and may be modified or canceled by the harbor master due to unsafe sea conditions.
  • Participants must know how to swim comfortably in open water to fully enjoy the snorkeling activity.

Although the season (May to September) offers a very high sighting probability, whale sharks are a migratory species in their natural habitat, and we cannot 100% guarantee their exact location. Per government regulations in protected areas, refunds are not offered for a lack of sightings; however, our professional team will do everything possible to locate them. In the event that weather conditions prevent departure, the Harbor Master will close the port, and we will offer you the choice to reschedule or receive a full refund

Yes, it is safe. Wearing a life jacket is mandatory at all times while in the water, which guarantees your buoyancy. However, since the activity takes place in the open ocean with potential currents and moderate waves, it is essential that participants feel comfortable in the water and have basic swimming skills. Minors can participate under parental supervision, provided they follow the instructions of the certified guide

The journey to the feeding area takes approximately one hour in open waters, where boat movement is constant. We suggest taking precautions 30 minutes before boarding. If you are very sensitive, we recommend purchasing motion sickness medication (such as Dramamine) and having a light breakfast, like fruit or yogurt

Following conservation standards, swims are conducted in pairs, always accompanied by a certified guide. The itinerary includes 2 water entries per person to swim alongside the whale sharks. This ensures the activity is organized, safe for you, and minimally invasive for the animals. The total duration of the excursion is complemented by a relaxing stop at Playa Norte, Isla Mujeres, to enjoy ceviche and crystal-clear waters
