Seaweed in Cancun is one of the problems that the Caribbean beaches face the most and which is an issue that should not only be known by the locals of Cancun, but also by tourists.
Fortunately for those who wish to visit beaches in Cancun without seaweed, the presence of sargassum does not occur throughout the year. So how can we avoid sargassum during our vacation to Cancun?

What is Seaweed?
Sargassum is a floating macro-algae that forms colonies that cover large areas, which move according to ocean currents, by season, seaweed floats in masse in the sea.
Is Seaweed bad or dangerous?
To some extent, no. Sargassum is a refuge and habitat for many species, however, when it accumulates in excessive quantities, the algae can rot and emit gases that are toxic to native species and bacteria to us.

When is sargassum season in Cancun?
When it comes to enjoying the beaches of Cancun, one of the biggest disadvantages of sargassum is its position. The sargassum, by positioning itself at the foot of the beaches, steals all the blue color and smell from our beaches.
The sargassum season is in the spring and summer season, that is, between April and August. Therefore, the best season to enjoy the beaches is in October and February.
How to avoid seaweed in Cancun?
The most obvious and recommendable thing would be to plan your vacations outside of the sargassum season, however, you can still enjoy the beaches during the seaweed season.
Beach maintenance services constantly clean the beaches to provide a better vacation experience. Similarly, if you stay in a hotel, rest assured that it will be free of sargassum.
So will sargassum affect my vacation?
Yes and no. It may or may not affect your experience visiting Cancun public beaches during the season. Remember that seaweed is only positioned at the foot of the beaches, which means that, if you want to snorkel, this macro-algae will not affect your experience at all, since snorkeling is only in the open sea like Isla Mujeres .
